What is circuit board assembly?

Printed circuit board assembly is the process of connecting the electronic parts with the wirings of printed circuit boards. The pathways also referred to as traces engraved onto the copper sheets of PCBs are used within a non-conductive substrate in order to form the assembly. With this, the assembly is complete. 


Which are the various ways to create printed circuit board assemblies?

Printed circuit board assembly is advised to be done with care, focusing on points of interest and outright accuracy, as this would determine the successful operation of the electronic devices. The electronic machines can be ideally assembled with the PCBs in the 3 following ways:

  1. Surface Mount Assembly (SMT):  Surface mount technology includes components made up of metal tabs and can be easily soldered to the board. The result is a higher circuit density as long as components are affixed on both sides.


  1. Plated through-hole technology (PTH): In this process, leads are attached to the components. These components are used inserting the provision of drilled holes in a circuit board. This expensive technique leads to the most competent boards.


  1. Electro-mechanical assembly: Also known as box-build assembly, this method uses various elements like wire harnesses, molded plastics, custom metalwork, cable assembly, and looms in order to assemble printed circuit boards with the electronic components.
