1N5402 Diode

A diode’s ability to allow current to flow in one direction has many applications in electronic circuits. And more so are the 1N5402 that you can use in tasks that don’t need special power functions. Here, we provide all the information about the 1N5402 diode.

What Is the 1N5402 Diode?

1N5402 is a 200V 3A general-purpose power diode with a power dissipation of 6.25 Watts.

Additionally, the 1N5402’s primary purpose in circuits is available rectification or converting alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC).

Its ability to block reverse current flow renders it useful for circuit protection in the case of reverse power supply.

A major shortcoming of this diode is it recovers slowly, making it undesirable for modern electronic circuits. For this reason, it’s no longer popular and is being replaced by better diodes.

The 1N5402 diode has two terminals which are the anode and the cathode.

Connecting your cathode to your power source will result in the diode acting as an insulator. In such a state, your diode is in reverse bias mode.

Therefore, the cathode needs to be your output.

Furthermore, diodes are sensitive devices, especially when subject to a higher power than their power rating.

The Features and Specifications of the 1N5402 Diode

Features

Below are the features of the 1N5402 diode.

The main difference between these diodes is their non-repetitive reverse voltage and the peak repetitive voltages.

Therefore, you don’t need to worry about working on 12 to 24V circuitry as they won’t fail.

However, select a higher peak repetitive voltage than your circuit power for higher power circuitry.

Applications

Depending on its product attributes, some applications employ the 1N5402 standard diode.

  • Eliminating reverse polarity in circuits
  • As a safety device
  • As a current regulator
  • In half and full-wave rectifiers
  • In high-voltage supply power circuits

Conclusion

In conclusion, 1N5402 is a general-purpose diode that you can use in almost every circuit that requires a diode‘s application.

Its low leakage and high current capability favor it in power management applications.
