Our Mid Volume Robotics PCB Assembly Capabilities

WellPCB’s mid volume robotics PCB assembly combines high precision placement, certified inspection processes and advanced material options to deliver reliable robot circuit boards for a range of applications.

Our SMT lines achieve placement accuracy within ±30 µm, with throughput up to 600,000 components per hour. We assemble ultra-fine pitch devices down to 01005, BGA packages with 0.2 mm pitch, and QFP spacing at 0.25 mm.

Robotics applications often require compact layouts; we support HDI PCB designs with microvias, via-in-pad and stacked structures for dense interconnects. Reflow soldering profiles are tightly controlled to avoid component shift and maintain joint integrity.

We provide through-hole assembly for connectors, power transistors and mechanical support components on robotics boards that undergo vibration and continuous load.

Finished drill sizes down to 0.15 mm with aspect ratios up to 12:1 are supported, ensuring reliable plated through-holes.

For robots requiring movement and compact enclosures, we produce flex PCB and rigid-flex boards using polyimide and high Tg FR4.

Thickness options range from 0.2 mm to 6.0 mm with warp and twist controlled to ≤0.7%. These structures withstand millions of bend cycles in collaborative and wearable robotics.

Our mixed assembly process integrates SMT and THT on the same robot PCB assembly, combining miniaturized signal processing with robust power connections.

This is common in complex robot designs where control circuits, high-power drivers and safety systems must be integrated onto a single printed circuit board.

Surface treatments include leaded HASL, lead-free HASL, immersion gold, OSP, and silver.

Protective coatings are available for robots exposed to dust, chemicals, or outdoor environments, helping extend the service life of each finished robot PCB.

Every robotics PCBA undergoes 100% automated optical inspection (AOI), X-ray inspection for BGA joints, in-circuit testing and functional testing.

Additional reliability checks include solderability, impedance control, thermal shock and microsection analysis of copper plating.

WellPCB’s mid volume robotics PCB assembly follows IPC-A-610 Class 3 workmanship standards, providing 99.9% reliability for mission-critical robotics.

Our facilities are ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified, with processes aligned to AS9100D for aerospace robotics, and ISO 13485 for medical device robotics requiring FDA compliance for collaborative robotics safety.

These certifications ensure access to industrial, aerospace, medical, and collaborative robotics markets with proven quality assurance.

WellPCB provides complete PCB assembly solutions from PCB design and manufacturing through component sourcing and final box build.

Our one-stop model covers everything from BOM verification to shipment of fully tested robotics PCB assemblies, supporting both prototype and mid volume production.

What is Considered to Be a Mid Volume PCB Assembly?

Mid volume PCB assembly refers to production runs that are larger than prototypes or small batches but not yet at mass manufacturing scale. At WellPCB, this means quantities from hundreds up to several thousand PCB assemblies per order, although it’s generally considered to fall between 10,000 and 50,000 units.

This level of output supports robotics companies moving beyond PCB prototype validation and into repeatable production while maintaining flexibility in design changes and faster lead times than full high volume PCB manufacturing.

Robotics-Specific Applications

industrial automation robots

Industrial Automation Robots

Robotics PCBs for industrial automation must operate in high-temperature environments up to 125 °C, resist vibration, and maintain EMI/EMC compliance.

WellPCB delivers robot circuit boards with heavy copper options up to 20 oz, controlled impedance and conformal coating to support reliable operation on production lines.

autonomous mobile robots

Collaborative Robots (Cobots)

Collaborative robotics requires built-in safety and energy efficiency.

WellPCB supports safety standards with dedicated safety circuits, polyimide flex PCB structures for moving joints, and optimized power management systems that extend runtime while protecting human operators during interaction.

medical imaging and diagnostic equipment

Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR/AGV)

Autonomous robots rely on navigation, wireless communication and battery management.

Our PCB assemblies integrate LiDAR and vision sensors, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules and robust BMS circuitry, with conformal coating to protect boards in warehouses and outdoor applications.

medical robotics

Medical Robotics

Medical robots demand miniaturized and sterilization-ready electronics.

WellPCB provides HDI PCB and rigid-flex structures with microvia technology for compact designs, along with biocompatible finishes such as ENIG and tested IPC Class 3 solder joints to guarantee safety in surgical and diagnostic systems.

Our Mid Volume Robotics PCB Assembly Process

WellPCB follows a structured PCB assembly process designed for accuracy, repeatability and reliability in robotics production. Each stage, from DFM review to final inspection, is optimized for mid volume runs.

1. DFM Review & BOM Verification

Each project begins with a complete DFM review of Gerber data, panelization and assembly drawings. Our engineers check pad sizes, annular rings, via structures and spacing to confirm manufacturability. The BOM is cross verified with our global supply chain to ensure all electronic components are sourced from authorized distributors, with alternates proposed if availability is limited.

2. Solder Paste Printing & Inspection

We apply solder paste using precision stainless steel stencils and automated printers with ±25 µm alignment accuracy. Paste deposition is verified by SPI (solder paste inspection) to confirm volume and alignment, which is especially important for fine-pitch BGAs and QFNs on a robot circuit board.

3. SMT Placement & Reflow Soldering

Our SMT lines operate at speeds up to 600,000 CPH with component placement accuracy of ±30 µm. We handle 01005 passives, 0.2 mm BGA pitch, and ultra-fine QFP spacing at 0.25 mm. Controlled reflow soldering profiles are applied across multi-zone ovens, ensuring high reliability solder joints while minimizing thermal stress to the PCB assemblies.

4. THT Insertion & Soldering

For high current connectors, transformers and power modules, we use through-hole assembly via automated wave soldering or selective soldering systems. Manual soldering by IPC-trained operators is applied for specialized or low-tolerance joints, supporting mixed assembly where SMT and THT coexist on the same printed circuit board assembly.

5. AOI, X-Ray & Functional Testing

Every robot PCB assembly is inspected using AOI for solder bridge detection, missing parts and misalignment. 3D X-ray scanning validates BGA ball integrity and hidden solder joints. We perform ICT (in-circuit testing) for continuity and resistance values, and FCT (functional circuit testing) to validate motion controllers, sensor interfaces and power regulation circuits for robotics systems.

6. Conformal Coating (Optional)

For service robots or industrial automation equipment exposed to moisture, chemicals or dust, conformal coatings are applied. Options include acrylic, silicone and urethane coatings, enhancing insulation resistance and extending the lifecycle of the finished robot PCB.

7. Final Inspection, Packaging & Shipping

Before shipment, all PCBs undergo dimensional verification, solderability assessment and microsection analysis of copper plating when required. Each robotics PCBA is cleaned, ESD-protected, vacuum sealed and labeled with full traceability. Secure packaging safeguards boards during international delivery to robotics manufacturers worldwide.
